Chapter 0 - Kriv + Derngu

Kriv takes a huge gulp of his ale and turns back to the general while motioning toward Derngu. "What do you say general? He proved his worth fighting off goblins and monsters to try and save his town"

"There ye be wrong lad, I di'nt try ta save me town, I was th' last breath'n soul stand'n in th' great-hall. If I w'er ta save me town, Ach, I woulda had some o' me brethr'n still with me! Alas, I wasn't able ta save some o' me lads n' lasses. A feel'n which hurts so." Derngu says, drinking the few drops remaining in his ale.

Kriv finishes the last of his ale. "My apologies."

"Well, it seems neither of you have much to lose. That's good. No distractions from your work. Let's put it this way - you've been selected to undergo initial testing followed by possible training. All that's left, is for you to ask me anything you need to know. And don't offend me to the point of rejecting the application." he adds with a wink.

"I have just one, what will you have us do? And i gladly accept."

"Ach, well lad, down th' road a tad I wish ta drop in and say allo ta th' groups behind me city's seige. Th't is me only request." Derngu replies.

"Kriv, I can't really answer that. It will be military operations. Your exact objectives will depend on your, and your team's talents. Derngu, there's a very real possibility that you will be paid for it, if we believe it a threat to us as well."

Derngu's face quickly changes for the better, and he nearly shouts "Aye then Lad, count me in! We be bring'n justice and light ta th' lands ye? That th'n we best be off, li'l time ta lose th'er is!."

"Take this. Keep it safe. Losing it is a crime punishable with death. It will tell you when to return here, and we will set out." he says, reaching into a pocket and holding out two objects. At first they appear to be coins, but they're too light, and the designs on it are all wrong.

Kriv takes one and examines it. "What are these, exactly?"

Derngu takes one of the two objects, and says "It be safe w'th a Dwarf, lad." Derngu then places it into one of his boots. "Wh'er an' when we be off ta, then?" He says.

"Where? A training camp we maintain not far from here. When? Depends how the recruiting is. By the end of the festival, I'm sure. To answer your question, these are signaling devices. And we don't need them getting reverse engineered."

Kriv nods and puts the device in his backpack. He grins "If they want it they can take it off my cold dead body."

"Good man." he says, looking at each of you again. "So, is there anything else you'd like to ask me? Business related or otherwise?"

"Nope. I'm good"

"I am sure th'er be secrecy ta be held. I know wot I must, an' I'm sure we be goin' fer' good deeds, eh?" Derngu questions.

"But of course." he says with a smile. "If that's all, I'll be heading back to my post. You gentlemen enjoy your lunch, and please, have fun at the fair."

Kriv watches the general leave, then motions for Derngu to take his place "Come, i cant finish all this by myself, besides...after a long journey you must be hungry. Eat with me, then lets scout out the rest of the festival"

"Ach, I be li'l pekish! Ye be good lad ta share ye meal with a Dwarf. Have ye tried a real man's brew? - None o' th's sissy hog wash ye call ale!" Derngu replies. He then hops off his current seat, which lets off a sigh of relief, and swings 'round the table to take the seat the general had.

"What ye interest by in th'er fair 'ere?" He questions, as he reaches across the table to grab some meat and bread.

"I just happened to enter the town when the festival started. I've already been in a duel, for fun of course. I hate getting rusty." Kriv states as he grabs more meat and cheese

"Me feel ya th'er, Kriv. I ha'nt yet gamed, but me taste bin' treated to good Dwarven stout! I came in this'morn I have... ha'nt seen much o'yet. Though me axe hand could well be weak'nin from lack o' use!" Derng laughs.

"Come, ye should try a good Dwarven ale. Might Man ye up a tad, lad."

Kriv gives a puzzled yet interested look "Whats the difference? Ale is ale isnt it?"

"Och, ye have much ta lern laddy! Come, lemme show ya what ye miss'n!"
Derngu stands, walks towards and points at a Dwarven Brewer across the yard.
